Success in mathematics begins with developing a sense of numbers through counting and quantity. While teaching children to count from 1 to 10 and beyond is helpful, this skill differs from learning to count. A strong foundation in counting and quantity is crucial for later mathematical success in higher grades. The Friendly Frogs are learning about numbers and quantities. To add more excitement to our lesson, we took it outdoors. The Frogs had to identify the numbers and then go around the garden to collect objects to represent those numbers. Everyone contributed to the activity by collecting loads of pinecones.
