The children continued their exploration of shape and colour by working with squares in different sizes and colours. Rather than simply placing the shapes on the page, they used their creative imagination to transform the simple squares into their own ideas and pictures. Some children arranged the shapes to create houses, while others imagined monkeys, people and other familiar objects. Each child made their own decisions about how to position, combine and arrange the squares, discovering that a simple shape can become something completely different when we look at it creatively. Through this open-ended collage experience, the children explored shape, colour, composition and imaginative thinking, while developing confidence in expressing their own ideas through art.
