Organic food on the family’s table

Is organic food better for children? Should you consider changing to an organic diet for the whole family? According to the report from the Soil Association in 2001, organic food is most definitely healthier as well as safer.

Perhaps the only drawback is the higher cost of organic food. If you can afford it, just a few organic ingredients will be a step in the right direction. If you can`t buy many organic foods, don`t worry. It`s more important that your child eats plentiful amounts of fresh foods – even if they are non-organic – than skimp on quantities.

Here are 4 reasons for going organic:

  1. Organic foods contain the lowest possible amounts of contaminants such as pesticides, antibiotics and nitrates. It`s a controversial area. There is evidence that the `cocktail` effect of pesticide residues over time may cause health problems in the future.
  2. Organic food can have higher vitamin C levels, and more minerals such as calcium, iron, potassium, zinc and magnesium.
  3. Organic foods undergo minimal processing. That means they contain no hydrogenated fats, artificial additives, preservatives or genetically modified organisms (GMOs)
  4. Certain organic foods taste better and have more flavour
