Gross motor skills involve the large arms, legs, and torso muscles, supporting overall mobility, including walking, running, and jumping. These skills play a crucial role in a child’s ability to participate in sports (such as throwing, catching, kicking, and lifting), manage self-care tasks (like dressing and hygiene), and sustain physical activity for extended periods. The Tiny Tigers strengthened their gross motor control in this lesson by exploring different play-related movements. As they engaged in these activities, they also developed key related skills, including balance and coordination, strength and endurance, focused attention, and body and spatial awareness.
