In this lesson, the Tiny Tigers could imitate different sounds with zig-zag blocks. It also introduced the important relationship between sounds and symbols. In many activities, the class heard sounds (from the audio or from their bodies, voices, or instruments) and also saw symbols that represented those sounds. The symbols showed the duration, quality, quantity, pacing, pattern, and intensity of the sounds. Decoding and interpreting symbols are pre-reading skills that are necessary for the areas of language (letters, words, sentences), math (numbers, shapes, patterns), and music (music notation).
