Over the past two weeks, the Friendly Frogs have been engaged in an exciting inquiry, “Where does our food come from?” As part of our Life Cycles unit, the children have been developing an understanding of how plants grow, where fruits and vegetables originate, and nature’s important role in supporting this cycle. We explored how the different plants grow. We began by examining the journey from seed to table, thinking about farmers’ roles and the interconnectedness between humans and the natural environment. At our Exploration Table, the children were introduced to a vibrant Atelier of fruits and vegetables, where they were encouraged to use their senses to touch, smell, observe, and even taste a range of fresh produce. Following our indoor exploration, we stepped outside for our planting activity. Each child planted their vegetable seeds in small cups. These seedlings will eventually be transferred to our planting beds outside, where the children can continue to observe, water, and care for their growing plants.
We look forward to watching our plants grow and harvesting the vegetables we planted, completing the entire cycle from seed to table.
