Our Programme of Inquiry this month is ‘How the world works’. We are exploring the Earth’s natural cycles. Related to this topic, we introduced ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ story. The book helps and contributes to the understanding of nature by introducing the life journey of a little caterpillar. The Cuddly Koalas children enjoyed learning and developing their vocabulary about the names of the days of the weeks, names of different kinds of fruit, about the proper balance of eating; and of course, we could observe through the book how a tiny egg turns into a beautiful butterfly. We helped the children to understand the topic with felt figures that became one of the theme’s favourites as they could easily act out the story. During art and craft activities we decorated our own butterflies and painted colourful caterpillars.
