Careful listening leads to greater learning and understanding. Children learn to distinguish the voices of Mom and Dad or their favourite friends, the sounds of footsteps, a door closing, or dinner being cooked in the kitchen. This ability to listen and distinguish sounds also contributes to their developing language skills. It takes all kinds of sounds to makeup a word. Listening for the different sounds and timbres of the instruments on the recording and matching the sound of the instrument to the sound on the recording is a significant step on the road to language fluency. Connecting the sound of an instrument with the action of the word or phrase it’s illustrating adds another dimension to listening and exploration. This process is a practice in creativity and linear thinking combined!
