The Cheeky Monkeys children focused on the king chess piece in their chess lessons. First, they learned important features of the king’s chess piece, such as its value, starting position, and movement abilities. Then, they mastered the meaning of check and checkmate and practised giving checks and checkmates to the king chess piece in various ways. Next, they learned to solve checks in three ways. Step away from the check, ‘block’ the check with another piece, or capture the piece that caused the check. At last, the children played an ‘open chess game’ where they mastered the main rules of chess and discussed openly the possible solutions with each other.
