We embarked on a sensory adventure with a simple yet engaging activity—the Feeling Bag! Watching the children explore different materials using only their sense of touch and smell was a delightful experience, filled with curiosity, laughter, and many descriptive words.

Children are naturally inquisitive, and this activity gave them the perfect opportunity to engage their senses meaningfully. With a bag full of mystery objects, each child took turns reaching in, feeling an item, and describing it before revealing what it was.

Their reactions were priceless! Some faces lit up with recognition, while others scrunched in concentration as they struggled to find the right words. One child excitedly said, “It’s soft and squishy like a marshmallow!” while another hesitantly sniffed a cotton ball and giggled, “It smells like cotton candy!”

Beyond the giggles and guesses, the Feeling Bag activity was a fantastic way to expand the children’s vocabulary and encourage creative thinking. They learned to use descriptive language, compare textures, and make associations between objects and their real-world experiences.

Some children quickly recognised certain materials, while others needed a little prompting. Asking open-ended questions like, “What does it remind you of?” or “Where have you felt something like this before?” helped them connect and express their thoughts in new ways.

What made this activity even more special was its simplicity. With just a bag and a few household objects, we created an engaging learning experience that honed sensory perception, language skills, and even a bit of confidence as the children proudly shared their discoveries.

By the end of the session, the children were eager to play again and suggested their objects for the next round. This was a beautiful reminder of how small activities can have a big impact on a child’s development.
